Role Overview
We are seeking highly motivated and professional Store Detectives to join our team. You will operate at the forefront of retail security, using industry-leading technology to detect suspicious behaviour, guide interventions, and protect people and assets. The role demands excellent judgement, confidence in high-pressure situations, and the ability to balance proactive intervention with intelligence gathering. You will work closely with local law enforcement, business crime reduction initiatives, and colleagues to ensure a safe and secure environment for staff and customers.

Hours: 45 hours
Hourly Rate: £15.00
Shift Pattern: must be willing to move around different sites in Edinburgh

Key Responsibilities
Deliver retail security interventions guided by technology alerts, including detention of individuals, early recovery of goods, and intelligence-only reporting where appropriate.
Utilise advanced, industry-leading technology to monitor, detect, and respond to suspicious behaviour, exercising excellent judgement in a variety of situations.
Collaborate with local police and business crime reduction initiatives to collect and share actionable intelligence.
Ensure safety of staff, customers, and yourself at all times, strictly following A.S.C.O.N.E protocols.
Cover a small cluster of stores, with travel reflecting the agreed deployment area (travel outside cluster reimbursed).
Provide exceptional customer service while maintaining a professional and approachable presence.
Take part in local information gathering and collaboration initiatives to prevent crime and reduce risk.
Apply conflict management skills when required; training provided where appropriate.
Maintain smart appearance, professional conduct, and represent ASEL as a trusted partner to the business.
Contribute to continuous personal development and career growth through the ASEL Group Development Plan.
Core Requirements
Essential:
Retail security experience, ideally plain clothes (training available for experienced uniform officers).
Valid SIA Front-Line licence.
Manual driving licence.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
Ability to remain professional in high-pressure situations and manage conflict effectively.
Minimum of one year of frontline security experience in retail or guarded services.
Basic IT proficiency.
Smart appearance and professional conduct.
Desirable:
- Educated to A-Level or advanced NVQ level.
- Additional SIA accreditations.
- Conflict management training.
